Unlocking Your Potential: The 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Syllabus

300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Rishikesh - Syllabus

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga sits at the centre of our 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh. Having already met the classical postures in your 200-hour training, this level is about refinement — holding longer, breathing deeper, and understanding why each shape does what it does. We work directly from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, which names fifteen classical asanas:

  • Svastikasana (Auspicious Pose)
  • Gomukhasana (Cow-Facing Pose)
  • Virasana (Hero's Pose)
  • Kurmasana (Tortoise Pose)
  • Kukkutasana (Cockerel or Rooster Pose)
  • Uttana Kurmasana (Tortoise Pose)
  • Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)
  • Matsyendrasana (Seated Twisting Pose)
  • Paschimatanasana (Seated Forward Bending Pose)
  • Mayurasana (Peacock Pose)
  • Shavasana (Corpse Pose)
  • Siddhasana (Accomplished Pose)
  • Padmasana (Lotus Pose)
  • Simhasana (Lion Pose)
  • Bhadrasana (Throne Pose)

Alongside the postures you refine the supporting practices — Pranayama, Mantra Chanting, Mudras and Bandhas — so that your Hatha practice becomes one integrated system rather than a sequence of separate techniques. By the end of the month you will be able to hold, modify and teach each of these asanas with confidence.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

The Ashtanga Vinyasa portion of the 300-hour course takes you through the full Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa) at teaching depth. Created in the 20th century by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, this method links every movement to a breath — the vinyasa — building heat, stamina and precision. Advanced students begin working towards the Intermediate Series where practice allows:

  • Surya Namaskar A
  • Surya Namaskar B
  • Padangusthasana
  • Padahastasana
  • Utthita Trikonasana
  • Parivrtta Trikonasana
  • Utthita Parsvakonasana
  • Parivrtta Parsvakonasana
  • Prasarita Padottanasana A, B, C & D
  • Parsvottanasana
  • Utthita Hasta Padangusthasanaa A, B & C
  • Ardha Baddha Padmottanasana
  • Utkatasana
  • Virabhadrasana A & B
  • Dandasana
  • Paschimottanasana A, B & C
  • Ardha Baddha Paschimottanasana
  • Triang Mukhaikapada Paschimottanasana
  • Janu Sirsasana A, B & C
  • Marichyasana A, B, C & D
  • Navasana
  • Bhujapidasana A & B
  • Kurmasana
  • Supta Kurmasana
  • Garbha Pindasana
  • Kukkutasana
  • Baddha Konasana A & B
  • Upavistha Konasana A & B
  • Supta Konasana
  • Supta Padangusthasana
  • Ubhaya Padangusthasana
  • Urdhva Mukha Paschimottanasana
  • Setu Bandhasana
  • Urdhva Dhanurasana
  • Salamba Sarvangasana
  • Halasana
  • Karnapidasana
  • Urdhva Padmasana
  • Pindasana
  • Matsyasana
  • Uttana Padasana
  • Sirsasana
  • Baddha Padmasana
  • Yoga Mudrasana
  • Padmasana
  • Uplutih

You will learn the traditional count, the drishti (gaze point) for each posture and the safe entry and exit points that make this demanding series sustainable for your own students.

Pranayama

Pranayama at 300-hour level moves beyond the foundational techniques into sustained practice and retention. In Sanskrit prana means life force and yama means control — this month you learn to regulate that force deliberately, and to teach it safely to students of varying capacity:

  • Introduction of Pranayama
  • Benefits of Pranayama
  • General guidelines
  • Clavicular Pranayama
  • Thoracic and Diaphragmatic Pranayama (Yogic breathing)
  • Ujjayi Pranayama
  • Bhastrika Pranayama
  • Kapalbhati Pranayama
  • Nadi - Sodhana Pranayama
  • Bhramari Pranayama
  • Surya - Bhedi & Chandra - Bhedi Pranayama
  • Sheetali & Sheetkari Pranayama

Each technique is taught with its contraindications, so you leave knowing not only how to practise but when not to prescribe a practice.

Yoga Philosophy

Yoga philosophy gives your teaching its foundation. This module of the 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training goes deeper into the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the wider philosophical framework that yoga grew from, connecting mind, body and spirit into one coherent view:

  • Introduction to Yoga Philosophy
  • History of Yoga
  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
  • The Eight Limbs of Yoga
  • The Three Gunas
  • The Four Paths of Yoga
  • Karma Yoga
  • Bhakti Yoga
  • Jnana Yoga
  • Raja Yoga

Discussion-based sessions with our philosophy teacher help you translate these classical ideas into language your own students will understand.

Alignment and Adjustment

Alignment and adjustment is the module that most clearly separates a practitioner from a teacher. Alignment is the correct positioning of the body in a posture; adjustment is how you guide a student towards it — with your hands, your voice or a prop. This is hands-on, practical work throughout:

  • Importance of Alignment
  • Principles of Alignment
  • Common Misalignments
  • How to Adjust Students
  • Using Props for Alignment
  • Adjustments for Specific Poses

You practise on your fellow trainees under supervision, learning consent, pressure and timing — the details that make an adjustment helpful rather than intrusive.

Shatkarma

Shatkarma is the set of six yogic purification techniques described in the Hatha tradition. They clear the body of accumulated toxins and prepare it for deeper asana and pranayama practice. All techniques are taught practically, under supervision, on the banks of the Ganga in Rishikesh:

  • Jal Neti (Water Cleansing)
  • Rubber Neti (Rubber Cleansing)
  • Kunjal Kriya (Stomach Cleansing)
  • Trataka (Eye Cleansing)
  • Kapalbhati (Skull Shining)
  • Nauli (Abdominal Massage)

Yoga Anatomy and Physiology

Yoga anatomy and physiology explains what is actually happening inside the body when a posture is held. At 300-hour level the focus shifts from naming the systems to applying them — sequencing for a specific muscle group, recognising a limitation, and adapting a class for the body in front of you:

  • Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology
  • The Skeletal System
  • The Muscular System
  • The Respiratory System
  • The Digestive System
  • The Nervous System
  • The Endocrine System
  • The Cardiovascular System
  • Anatomy of Yoga Poses

This applied approach is what lets you teach mixed-level classes safely once you return home.

Yoga Nidra and Meditation

Yoga Nidra is the state of conscious deep sleep — one of the most powerful relaxation and stress-relief tools a teacher can offer. Paired with meditation practice, this module trains both your own inner steadiness and your ability to hold space and guide others:

  • Introduction to Yoga Nidra
  • Benefits of Yoga Nidra
  • Stages of Yoga Nidra
  • Introduction to Meditation
  • Benefits of Meditation
  • Different Types of Meditation
  • Guided Meditation

You will script and lead your own Yoga Nidra session before the course ends.

Mantra Chanting and Sanskrit

Mantras are sacred sounds whose vibration steadies the mind. Sanskrit is the language in which yoga's source texts were written, and even a working knowledge of it changes how you read and teach them. This module covers both:

  • Introduction to Mantra Chanting
  • Benefits of Mantra Chanting
  • Common Mantras (Om, Gayatri Mantra, etc.)
  • Introduction to Sanskrit
  • Pronunciation of Sanskrit Words

Correct pronunciation is practised daily in the morning satsang, so the chanting becomes natural rather than memorised.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga works with the dormant energy at the base of the spine, awakening it through mantra, kriya, asana and meditation. This module of the 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh approaches it in the traditional way — carefully, and with the preparation the practice requires:

  • Introduction to Kundalini Yoga
  • The Chakras
  • The Nadis
  • Kundalini Awakening
  • Kriyas
  • Bandhas

Taught with an emphasis on safety and gradual progression, so that the practice supports your nervous system rather than overwhelming it.

Teaching Methodology

Teaching methodology turns everything else on this list into a class you can actually lead. You learn how to plan and sequence, how to cue clearly, how to hold a room, and how to hold the ethical line that the role requires:

  • Role of a Yoga Teacher
  • Class Sequencing
  • Demonstration Techniques
  • Adjustment Techniques
  • Voice Projection
  • Class Management
  • Ethics for Yoga Teachers

Every trainee teaches practice classes to their peers and receives structured feedback from our senior teachers before graduating.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga — India's traditional system of medicine, built on the idea that health depends on the balance between mind, body and spirit. Our resident Ayurvedic doctor teaches this module:

  • Introduction to Ayurveda
  • The Three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha)
  • Ayurvedic Diet
  • Ayurvedic Lifestyle
  • Ayurveda and Yoga

You leave able to recognise the three doshas and to make simple, responsible lifestyle and diet suggestions to your students.

The Ashram Experience

Our Rooms

Nourishment

Sattvic Food & Meals

The Philosophy of Ahara (Diet) At Mimamsa Yogshala, we believe that what you eat determines how you think and feel. In the yogic tradition, food is more than just fuel; it is Prana (life force).

Our kitchen follows strict Ayurvedic principles to create Satvik meals—pure, vegetarian food that is fresh, light, and easy to digest. Free from heavy spices, excessive oil, and artificial additives, our meals are designed to calm the mind, detoxify the body, and deepen your meditation practice.

A Taste of Tradition We serve a rotating menu based on seasonal availability from local markets in Rishikesh. Every meal is a balanced composition of nutrients and flavors.

  • Freshly Cooked Dals: Protein-rich lentils cooked with healing herbs like turmeric and cumin.
  • Seasonal Sabzi: Organic vegetables stir-fried lightly to retain their natural crunch and vitamins.
  • Whole Grains: Hot, fluffy Rotis (Indian flatbreads) and fragrant Basmati rice.
  • Probiotic Boost: Fresh curd or buttermilk to aid digestion.

Sattvic Salads: Raw, crunchy greens to add vitality to your plate.

Benefits for the Modern Yogi

    • Mental Clarity: Reduces lethargy (Tamas) and restlessness (Rajas), promoting a state of peace (Sattva).
    • Enhanced Flexibility: A clean diet reduces inflammation, helping your body move more freely during asanas.
    • Better Digestion: Simple, plant-based ingredients allow your body to focus energy on healing rather than digesting heavy foods.
Adventures

Excursions & Tours

Rishikesh is not only the Yoga Capital of the World but also a place of immense natural beauty and spiritual significance. As part of your training, we organize weekly excursions to help you explore and rejuvenate.

These excursions are a perfect blend of adventure, spirituality, and relaxation. You will visit ancient temples, meditate by the holy Ganges river, and trek in the Himalayas.

The 300-hour course is an advanced training that dives deeper into complex asanas, advanced pranayama techniques, detailed anatomy, and complex yogic philosophy. It is designed to refine your teaching skills and personal practice.

Yes! The 300-hour certification, combined with your previous 200-hour certification, makes you a 500-hour qualified teacher. This advanced level gives you more credibility and confidence to lead specialized workshops, advanced classes, and even assist in teacher training programs.

Our 300-hour curriculum focuses on advanced Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary and Intermediate series, and Vinyasa Flow. We also explore therapeutic yoga applications, Yin Yoga, and advanced meditation techniques.

Yes, the course fee is all-inclusive. It covers your comfortable accommodation (shared or private), three nutritious Sattvic vegetarian meals daily, study materials, excursions, and the certification itself.

The schedule is intensive, typically starting at 6:00 AM and ending around 8:00 PM. It includes early morning meditation and pranayama, two asana sessions (morning and evening), philosophy lectures, anatomy classes, and teaching methodology workshops. Sundays are usually rest days or excursion days.

Yes, we provide comprehensive study manuals specifically designed for the 300-hour curriculum. Additionally, you will receive a Yoga Kit which typically includes a premium yoga mat, a neti pot, and a school t-shirt/bag.

Assessments include a practical teaching exam where you lead a class, a written theory exam covering philosophy and anatomy, and a continuous evaluation of your discipline, participation, and progress throughout the course.

Registration fees are non-refundable but can be transferred to any future course within one year if you provide notice at least 30 days before the course start date. In case of emergencies, we handle requests on a case-by-case basis.
